Course Summaries

Ammonia and Nitrogen Compound Treatment
Thursday April 25, 2019 (9:00 am - 11:30 am)
Recent development and monitoring of water quality has begun to identify ammonia and other nitrogen based compounds as pollutants of concern. Certain levels of these compounds are ideal for plant and algae growth. However, elevated levels along with other factors; pH, temperature, and the compound’s form, can be toxic.
The goal of this 2-1/2 hour presentation is to assist operators with understanding and operating ammonia and nitrogen compound removal systems. The presentation will delve into the concerns/environmental effects as well as treatment methods for these pollutants.

The Importance of Wastewater Sampling
Thursday April 25, 2019 (1:00 pm - 3:00 pm)
Often misunderstood and overlooked by wastewater operators, wastewater sampling plays a pivotal role in the proper operation of a wastewater treatment system. This presentation is designed to give operators a better understanding of why wastewater sampling is conducted and what the results of sampling can tell them about their system. In addition, we will also review how internal sampling is necessary to operate a wastewater treatment system effectively and efficiently.

Acid, Not Always Bad
Thursday May 2, 2019 (9:00 am - 11:30 am)
Over the years, the word acid has taken on a negative connotation in the English language. In some cases, this is rightfully so, because many acids are dangerous. However, the truth is that society uses and even consumes many types of acid. In this presentation, students will learn the properties and behavior of acid compounds. We will also explore the domestic and industrial use of various acids.

Water Systems and Conservation
Thursday May 2, 2019 (1:00 pm - 3:00 pm)
To understand our modern-day systems, it is helpful to see the who, what, when, why and where the first systems were developed. During this course, we will take a look at the sources of water to understand how our activities as a society may impact these sources. From there we talk about water quality requirements, how water is treated, stored and distributed, and discuss some common water conservation techniques.

CAPACCIO has developed a self-paced course to prepare wastewater treatment operators for the Massachusetts certification exam. The course consists of an introduction and eight modules that can be navigated at your own pace, and includes quizzes to measure progress.

After completing the self-study portion of the course you will attend two 5-hour classroom sessions taught by one of our instructors at our Marlborough, Massachusetts offices to review the course material, ask questions, take practice exams and further prepare you for taking the licensing exam. Each of these "live" sessions is approved for 5 TCHs.

Training is conducted at your facility to evaluate your current wastewater treatment system and identify ways to optimize existing systems. This course is 6 hours-MassDEP approved for TCH.

On-Site Evaluation and Optimization Course

For those operators who need training contact hours (TCHs) but find it difficult to attend off-site training and who are looking for ways to reduce operating costs...this course is for you.

CAPACCIO will visit your facility to conduct a wastewater treatment system evaluation and optimization. An experienced engineer will meet with your wastewater treatment operations staff and assist in evaluating and identifying ways to optimize existing systems. Training will begin with the development of process flow diagrams for existing operations, followed by a review of existing treatment operations and equipment. We will assist operators in understanding how the existing system works and identify opportunities to minimize wastewater flows and maximize treatment efficiency.

This course is a 6 hour MassDEP-approved TCH course and is billed at a flat rate regardless of the number of operators who attend from your firm.

Custom Training Options

We provide cost-effective training for clients that have several operators covering multiple shifts, which saves money and reduces production down time.
